More pictures with pins

Perfect for home craftsA book describing how to do a craft that using a wooden board and you are required to hammer nails into it and weave the nails with colored threads to create beautiful pieces of unique art. This book teaches the craft with step-by-step instructions and gives you many designs that you can create (some easy and some not-so-easy). I aquired this book 25 years ago and am trying to find more designs to create. I haven't been able to find any more books with designs so this is quite a good find if you would like to try it out.

Nature Lab
Published in Toy by Silver Dolphin (June, 2000)
Average review score:

Nature Lab is fun for children and adultsNature Lab is a wonderful combination of hands-on science experiments and descriptions of how things happen. Providing the basic scientific tools like a magnifying glass, litmus paper, test tube, tweezers, a pop-up lab table (which becomes a veiwing platform for viewing the plastic slides also included) and a variety of additional tools and materials, the kit leads one through a series of natural and chemical experiments to broaden the scientific knowledge of a young child and bring back that knowledge for an adult. From sprouting an avocado seed, to examining insects, to making a rock disappear in a benign solution, each step is carefully explained and colorfully illustrated. From the natural world we explored volcanoes and made one. We sprouted seeds and made a flying "origami" seed to illustrate how plants release their seeds to the winds to propigate themselves. And my granddaughter loved having all the small child-size scientific tools and played with them by making up her own experiments. If I have one disappointment in the Nature Lab, it is that, while it supplies the tools to conduct the experiments, many of the experiments require providing the essentials of the experiment such as baking soda, vinegar, seeds, and other things to complete the procedure. But once we read through the book and decided which experiments we wanted to perform, it was easy enough to gather the materials. We were not be able to do many of the experiments right after opening, which somewhat dampened the excitement but which did not, in the long run, diminish the enjoyment and enthusiasm for this product. It was a great way to introduce hands-on science to a nine year old girl.

Object-Oriented Programming With Turbo C++
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (March, 1991)
Average review score:

Good Introduction to OOPS programmingThis book is a good starting point for programmers who are just starting out with OOP and need some examples of what can be done with C++ and Turbo C++. Watch out for the examples. There are a few typos in the code for the chapters that will not be caught till you compile the files.

Panzerkampfwagen IV Medium Tank 1936-1945 (New Vanguard Series , No 28)
Published in Paperback by Osprey Pub Co (March, 1999)
Average review score:

Good value for the moneyThis title is typical of the New Vanguard series. It packs good value for the money, and it includes: colour profiles of uncommon subjects (incl. early model in Normandy and a Syrian tank), detailed cutaway, a brief development history with all the variants being described, and operational history inclusive the post-war use by Syria. Very good reference for modellers, specially if used in conjunction with the Squadron in action book. The only information I really miss in this book are scale plans.

Paramedic Emergency Care/Brady's Guide to Navigating the Internet, Third Edition
Published in Hardcover by Brady Games (January, 1999)
Average review score:

The StandardChances are, if you are shopping for paramedic texts, your choices are pretty much limited by what your instructor has on the syllabus. But whether you're fortunate enough to have a choice, or an instructor has chosen this for you, this latest edition of a tested standard will serve you well.
If you're in a class that mandates some other text and you have the money to spend on an auxilliary reference, this is also a fine selection.
The text is well constructed, attractively formatted and eminently readable without being pedantic or annoyingly simple like the AAOS Orange books were when you were taking EMT-B. The appendix is well written and exhaustive enough to satisfy the demanding researcher, and the accompanying illustrations and photos clearly and comprehensively support the text. If this isn't a reference you have in your personal library, get it, or convince your company or station to buy a copy for the professional reading room.
And be careful out there. Best regards, Stu

Prodigal Father Reuniting Fathers With T
Published in Paperback by Three Rivers Press ()
Average review score:

An easy read that provides a good starting pointI enjoyed reading this book. It is an easy read and is packed with useful information, though of course not everything will be applicable to every person's situation. Still, it provides a good framework for how a father might go through the process of rebuilding relations with kids he has left behind. I bought it with the idea of sending it to my "prodigal" father, who lives in another state and who I haven't seen in many years, to maybe encourage him to learn something. If I were a father who had left his family and wanted to try to reunite with my kids, I think this book would be a good starting point. It is primarily aimed at fathers with adolescent kids, though it does have information for fathers with older and younger kids, too. Even adult kids. It doesn't have all the answers, but it has many. It is especially good about warning prodigal fathers to fix their own lives and to be reliable and trustworthy for a change, which I think are the most important things that prodigal fathers must do if they expect their kids to want them back. It also does a good job of teaching prodigal fathers how to get rid of their own emotional baggage *before* trying to initiate contact. I think some prodigal fathers expect they can just waltz back into their kids' lives whenever they feel like it, and it just doesn't work that way. Too bad it's out of print -- I don't know how it compares to other books on this same topic, but it's worth looking for.
